Our only non-indigenous callaborator, Daniel moved to Aurukun on Cape York Peninsula almost 15 years ago and began work as an Assistant Arts Co-ordinator for the Aurukun Arts & Crafts Centre. The following year I began work on developing a Traditional Knowledge Database and began producing documentary films with members of the Aurukun community. Starting in 2004 I began exhibiting photography with three solo exhibitions at Mori Galleries, Sydney.
In October 2007, along with Thomas Toikalkin and Roxanne Yunkaporta from Aurukun, Wik Media Pty Ltd was established as a Media Production Centre. Established from the aspirations of the Aurukun community, to preserve and recognise traditional indigenous knowledge, to provide a vehicle for media production and create culturally appropriate educational programs.
Central to our work is the on-going development of a traditional knowledge database.
The goal of the database is to ensure the recording of traditional indigenous ways of understanding in communities is continued through the process of video recording, editing, sound and database entry of the highest quality- visual and archival. The outcomes generated through these recording processes range from documentaries films, publications, animations, music recordings and wed based content.
